The Backrooms in Minecraft

The aesthetic known as a Liminal Space is a location which is a transition between two other locations, or states of being. Typically these are abandoned, and oftentimes empty. 

For example: An abandoned mall or shopping centre, hotel hallways or an empty library.

The Idea can be expanded upon by not only highlighting the Liminal Space, but by removing the beginning and end that you are supposed to be  transitioning between a creating an unsettling infinite space between spaces or 'Liminal Horror'.

The most prolific use of Liminal Horror however is 'The Backrooms.'

The Backrooms are a near infinite liminal space, of what seems like an office hallway, with sickeningly yellow wallpaper and those ceiling squares you see everywhere. The Idea behind the backrooms that makes them special is that its an actual place you can go if you "noclip out of reality in the wrong areas"  and that you will be stuck there potentially forever. There are numerous interpretations of what the actual backrooms contains, but consistently there is an "entity" of some description to be avoided "Because if you can hear it, it sure as hell can hear you."

What we have done is translate the experience of wandering around the backrooms searching for any sign of life or a destination- to Minecraft. Although it is equally in vain.
